Born in Havana and raised in Los Angeles, Ernie Barrios is the founder and chief instructor of the Applied Body Mechanics Ving Tsun organisation, a fully certified coach in the Gary Lam Wing Chun System, and certified by David Peterson (the founder and principal instructor of the Melbourne Chinese Martial Arts Club in Melbourne) in the Wong Shun Leung Method.
Like many before him, Ernie was originally drawn to martial arts by the films and inspiration of Bruce Lee, and at the age of fifteen he began training in numerous systems. Originally trained in the harder Korean and Japanese systems, Ernie began a long journey of self-discovery through the martial arts that eventually led to Ving Tsun, a system that he found appealing due to its logical underpinnings. Ernie is also proficient in boxing, Muay Thai, Savate, and Kali.
Ernie originally became involved with teaching at the request of his instructors, but in truth has always had a genuine affinity for sharing knowledge with others. The ABMVT group Ernie has created is dedicated to honest, effective, modern training methodologies that are devoid of political motivation or unrealistic scenarios. To train with Ernie and his group is to train the skills and concepts of Ving Tsun in an environment more akin to a boxing gym than a traditional dojo.
Currently, Ernie is actively engaged in the personal development of the members of his Los Angeles ABMVT group, and continuously engaged in the development and support of his national and international coaches through seminars and intensive personal training. In addition to his primary group in Los Angeles, the ABMVT group also maintains quality satellite groups located in New York, San Francisco, Canada and Argentina.
